The Cuckoo clock and museum



On way to the central part of Kitami from Sapporo, you can get to a town called Onneyu that is the famous for hot springs. There is a cuckoo clock which is the tallest in Japan at the visitor’s place for rest called the station of road. The clock is twenty meters high. It’s nice to visit because its mechanism is nice. At the start of each hour, the dolls appear and dance with music. Finally the big cuckoo appears and sings to announce the time. This is popular with children.
In central area, there is a museum called Hokumoken culture center. There are four parts, science, history and planetarium. The museum is used for learning something for students. You can experience the simulations of earthquake and strong wind. You can also learn Kitami’s history. Art, calligraphy and photograph exhibitions often hold in the museum.

How to get there: to get to Onneyu, driving a car from Asahikawa. It is on the way to central part of Kitami. To get to Hokumoken culture center, take the bus from Kitami station to the front of culture center bus stop. The cost is 200 yen. You pay 460 yen for entrance the museum.
